ONLINE MEASURING METHOD OF STRAIN OF OPTICAL TRANSMISSION PATH

PURPOSE:To measure online the strain of a multicored optical cable by making incident an electrooptically converted sinusoidal modulation light signal on the spare core of the multicored optical cable and subjecting the exist light from the spare core to photoelectric conversion then monitoring a phase change by a phase meter. CONSTITUTION:The output from a synthesized signal generator 1 is converted to a light signal by an electrooptic converter 2 and the sinusoidal modulation light signal is passed to the spare core of the multicored optical cable 8. The output from the cable is put via an electrooptic converter 4 and an amplifier 5 into the phase meter 6 by which secular change is measured. The online measurement of the strain of the optical cable is thus made possible. The elucidation of the correspondence to climatic conditions, etc. and the improvement in the reliability of the optical cable are thereby made possible.
