PURPOSE:To enable the cutting of the stem and fine roots of a bulb without necessitating skilled labor, in high efficiency, by holding a bulb horizontally with the holding apparatus of an endless conveyor, and cutting the stem and the root of the bulb with a cutter. CONSTITUTION:The conveyor apparatus 2 is furnished with an endless conveyor 5 moving forward at the top face. A plurality of holding devices 7 each holding a bulbous vegetable (e.g. onion) T,T' in horizontal position are attached to the outer face of the conveyor 5 along the longitudinal direction with regular intervals. The cutting apparatus 14 is furnished with a stem-cutting cutter 16 and a root cutting cutter 15 placed close to both sides of the holding device 7 along the direction of forwarding motion, and the apparatuses 14, 2 are driven by the driving apparatus 6. In the operational mode, the bulbous vegetable is held horizontally with the holding device at the upper rear position of the endless conveyor 5 of the apparatus 2, and the stem and the root of the bulb can be cut in high efficiency without necessitating skilled labor.
