In the manufacture of fibre-reinforced carbon articles which have flanges, ribs and other projections, the projections are clamped before each heat treatment between temperature-resistant plates which positively bear against the projections and are supported on the surface of the article. The rigid clamping prevents deformations of the projections and delaminations in the deformation zone. <IMAGE>
