PURPOSE:To decrease the number of coaters and to reduce the loss of paint by enabling each of coating guns arranged on both sides of an automobile to vertically reciprocate and to be fixed at an optional position in the vertical direction in the coating line of an automobile body. CONSTITUTION:In the coating line of an automobile body Z, size coating guns 1 are respectively arranged on both sides of the automobiles. The gun 1 can be vertically reciprocated and fixed at an optional position in the vertical direction. When the automatic coating apparatus is used, the number of coaters can be reduced and the paint can be sprayed only on the automobile body or on a desired site of the automobile body in accordance with the shape of the side surface of the automobile body and with the coating pattern. Accordingly, the loss of paint in coating can be reduced.
