PURPOSE:To separate and remove automatically the impurities from the food and to reduce the working force by entangling mutually the impurities with the vortex flow of a liquid to remove the flotation of respective impurities and separating the impurities from the food with an overflow of the liquid. CONSTITUTION:In a method for separating the food such as the refrigerated lobster from the mixed impurities, the food being in a refrigerated state is introduced into a liquid vessel 1 stored with a liquid such as water. Thereby the food is defrosted by the latent heat of the liquid to disperse the food and the impurities but the vortex flow is caused in the liquid by the rotation of the blades 8 and the impurities are mutually entangled by the vortex flow. Then an overflow is caused in the liquid vessel 1 by the feed of the liquid and the food and the impurities are transferred on a separating plate 5 and the impurities fall on a water gutter 9 together with the overflow by the viscosity of the liquid and the food falls on a conduction plate 16 from a bend end of the separating plate 5. In such a way, the impurities are automatically removed.
