PURPOSE:To enable a printing mode to be switched over without need to operate an on-line switch each time of switching over the mode, by a system wherein when an on-line condition is provided, a printing mode is automatically switched over to an arbitrary printing mode which has been set under an off-line condition. CONSTITUTION:When a printing mode is switched over under an off-line condition, the new printing mode is set, in a thermal transfer printer capable of switching over from one to another of printing modes such as a thermal printing mode, a monochorome ribbon printing mode and a color ribbon printing mode. When an on-line condition is provided, it is discriminated whether or not the printing mode has been switched over under the off-line condition, and when the printing mode has been switched over under the off-line condition, the printing mode is switched over to set the printing mode. |
