PURPOSE:To detect a correlation having a little error by lowering signal components existing at respective ends of two signal trains to be detected in detecting the correlation and performing a correlating calculation. CONSTITUTION:For instance when using in an automatic focus, sensor trains 4a, 4b of a sensor device 4 output two images of analog photoelectric converting signals OS in time series to an AD converter 17 synchronizing with a clock phiC from a CCD drive device 15. The converter 17 synchronizes with a converting signal ADC from the drive device 15 to carry out a 8 bit conversion and a processor 18 receives the digital time series signals D0-D7. The processor 18 lowers a signal components existing at the ends of the received two image signal trains and performs a correlative shift of both the signal trains, and a correlative calculation of both the signal trains.
