摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber reinforced metallic material having superior strength by combining carbon fibers each having an Ni underlayer and an Al top layer with an Al alloy. CONSTITUTION:An Ni film of about 200mum thickness is formed on a carbon fiber of 7-9mum diameter by electroplating, and an Al film of about 200mum thickness is formed on the Ni film by chemical plating. The plated carbon fiber is cut to about 120mm length, and about 500,000 cut carbon fibers are bundled to form a bundle of carbon fibers. Such bundles 30 are preheated to about 350 deg.C and put in cavities 16 in the metallic mold 12 of a pressure casting apparatus 10. A molten Al alloy 20 is poured at about 750 deg.C into the molten metal reservoir 14 of the mold 12 and a punch 18 is immediately lowered to apply about 1,200mg/cm<2> pressure to the molten Al alloy 20. The alloy 20 is pushed up from the reservoir 14 and flows in the cavities 16, where it is impregnated into the bundles 30 of carbon fibers. The molten Al alloy is cooled under pressure and taken out.
