PURPOSE:To perform centering of a slab without a pause by measuring a meandering quantity of the slab using an image sensor and controlling a free roll fitted on the top of a rod of cylinder devices in the lateral direction of the slab based on measurements. CONSTITUTION:A lateral transitional distance at the right and left sides from the transferring center 9 of the slab 1 is measured by the image sensor 8. The meandering quantity of specified positions in the longitudinal direction of the slab 1 is measured. All cylinder devices C1-C6 operate independently. When the meandering quantities are measured by the image sensor 8 sequentially, the measured values are compared with the criterion value and each position of free rollers 5 of the inlet side cylinder devices C1, C2 and the intermediate cylinder devices C3, C4 are controlled and a meandering of the slab 1 is made to damp down. If the length of the slab 1 is so long, the control is performed using the inlet side cylinder devices C1, C2 and the outlet side cylinder devices C5 and C6. |
