PURPOSE:To obtain a change point detection system where the existing hardware is used in common to the utmost and the processing efficiency is not lowered by storing the position and number of changing points decided at every plural bits into a table and indexing the table. CONSTITUTION:A table corresponding to 512 ways of changing points and number is formed from one byte data read from an image data memory 1 and the stage of the final bit of the preceding data and stored in a pointer table 8. Since the relative position and number in the byte of the changing point of data of 1 byte corresponding to the table are always constant, the constant data is stored in advance in the table 10, which is indexed by an index outputted from the table 8 and an address incremented sequentially by the number of the changing points. Then the relative location of the change point of 1 byte data and a bit offset in the image data sent by the offset counter 12 are added to write the position of each changing point of the image data is written sequentially in a memory 7.
