The invention is based on a water aeration tube having a rigid support tube and a rubber hose positioned thereupon which is provided with many fine slits. In order to prevent the individual air bubbles emerging from the slits from joining up with others to form larger bubbles, the lowermost area of the hose does not have any slits over a perimeter region which is approximately 1/ [lacuna] to 1/3 of the circumference.
