PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound easily in high quality and purity sufficient for pharmaceutical use, without necessitating complicate operations, by purifying pyridine with conventional process, and treating the pyridine with solid alkali in vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:A general-grade pyridine having a purity of >=99.0% and obtained by the conventional purification means such as distillation is evaporate at the boiling temperature, and treated with a solid alkali to obtain the objective highly purified pyridine. The solid alkali is e.g. sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, etc., and there is no particular restriction in the shape of the solid alkali. The LSV (space velocity based on the distilled out liquid) is 0.1-40/Hr, preferably 0.4-2.0/Hr based on the vapor-phase pyridine. The treating temperature should be maintained above the boiling point of pyridine to keep the pyridine vapor from condensation.
