PURPOSE:To use an optical signal of 1.55mum by adding in advance a multiplexer, demultiplexer and optical fibers to a middle range optical transmission system using an optical signal of 1.3mum wavelength. CONSTITUTION:An output of an LED 10 generating an optical signal of 1.3mum wavelength and an output of an LED 11 generating an optical signal of 1.55mum wavelength are combined by a multiplexer 15 and sent to an optical cable 6. A repeater 14 uses a demultiplexer 17 to separate the optical signal of 1.3mum wavelength and the optical signal of 1.55mum wavelength, the optical signal of 1.3mum wavelength is amplified by an existing regeneration repeater 19 and the optical signal of 1.55mum wavelength enters fibers 20. The two optical signal are multiplexed by the multiplexer 16 and the result is sent to the optical cable 6. A terminal station 13 uses a demultiplexer 18 to separate the two optical signals, the optical signal of 1.3mum wavelength is sent to the reception section of a conventional optical transmission system and the optical signal of 1.55mum wavelength is sent to a reception section installed newly. |
