Process for the preparation of generally usable affinity adsorbents for the isolation of lectins

A generally applicable process for the purification of lectins is indicated. The process comprises partial removal of sialic acid residues from mucin from pig stomach by a mild acid treatment, covalent bonding of the product obtained in this way to an insoluble matrix, and using this material as affinity adsorbent for purifying lectins.
