PURPOSE:To improve the lowering effect of the concentration of machining powder thus to enable deeper machining and to shorten the machining time by varying the separating time or distance between an electrode and a work thereby maintaining stable discharge condition at any time. CONSTITUTION:Initial relative position between an electrode 1 and a work 2 is detected through a position detector 11 and stored through an arythmetic unit 12 is a position memory 13. Then a switch 8 will receive a signal from an inter-electrode voltage detector 9 to feed a signal to a drive unit 7 thus to lower the electrode 1 through a drive motor 4 and bring near to the work 2. Upon achieving of specific gap, pulse voltage from the power source 3 will cause pulse discharge in the gap. Here, the input voltage of said detector 9 will vary to function the drive unit 7 through the switch 8 thus to maintain stable discharge while maintaining constant gap. Consequently, lowering effect of the concentration of machining powder between the opposite electrodes is improved resulting in deeper machining and shortening of machining time.
