Safety device for controlling the drive motor of the drum of a washing machine, preventing spin-drying when the vessel of this washing machine still contains water. A presser-sensitive switch 41 is closed when the vessel does not contain any water and open when the vessel contains water. The circuit for controlling the motor has an input 203 to which is applied, by means of a potentiometer 40, a signal corresponding to the desired spin-drying speed. The switch 41, the open or closed state of which indicates whether the vessel contains or does not contain water, is placed in circuit with the potentiometer 40 before the input 203 of the control circuit. The latter is preferably a microprocessor. <IMAGE>
