PURPOSE:To improve drive performance by providing an claw clutch for direct- free engagement between the input and output elements of a viscous coupling and a transfer shaft to obtain in total two types of the travelling mode of 4-wheel drive of one type with viscous coupling and front-rear wheel direct coupling and 2-wheel drive. CONSTITUTION:When a rail 43 is operated to F direct 4WD position or FR direct 4WD position, teeth 42a or 42b of an claw clutch 40 mesh with a spline 36a or 37a to provide front wheel direct or front and rear wheel direct 4-wheel drive with a viscous coupling. Next, when the rail is operated to FF position, the claw clutch 40 is changed over to the free side, the viscous coupling 35 is disconnected from a transfer shaft 26 to provide FF 2-wheel drive. Thus, the travelling modes such as 4-wheel drive by the viscous coupling 35 can be selected to display sufficiently the drive performance.
