PURPOSE:To enable a multidensity scale image such as video image to be visualized stably and accurately by providing a calculation means to calculate energization time for a thermal head during recording and a memory for recording calculation results by the calculation means and controlling the scale of recording density using data which is read from a memory during recording. CONSTITUTION:An information concerning the characteristics of thermal transfer ink 9 entered in an ink sheet 3 using a mark 8 is detected by an optical sensor 5, and an ambient temperature is detected and its data input to an arithmetic operation device 16 by a temperature sensor attached to a thermal head 4. The arithmetic operation device 16 calculates an optimum energization time per contrast scale based on ink 9 characteristic data and ambient temperature data and write it into a gamma characteristic random access memory (gamma-RAM) 17. A density scale number is read by a half tone circuit 19, and 'ON' signal is sent to a head driver 20 by energization time for the thermal head 4 at each density scale using data of the gamma-RAM 17. The thermal head 4 is energized during an appropriate energization time according to the signal and generates heat. |
