PURPOSE:To establish an operation form having higher freedom by releasing a position condition relating to the positions of a reader and a controller without erroneously recognizing the presence and the absence of an error relating to a read code. CONSTITUTION:The code is read in a reading part 11, the code is sent to a decoding part 33 and decoded by using a signal cable 2' and an error check is performed in an error detecting part 34. If the error is detected, an error message is sent to an error display part 12. As the reading part 11, a bar code reader, an OCR or the like can be used and as the error display part 12, a buzzer, a light emitting element or the like can be used. Thereby, a data reader in which the error display part is provided in a reader side and whether the error is detected or not can be easily recognized is obtained.
