PURPOSE:To prevent the air and equipment from being contaminated owing to ozone production and to prolong the life of a photosensitive body greatly by supporting a contactor which is formed flexibly and contacts a body to be charged electrostatically so that the contactor swings freely. CONSTITUTION:When an original is copied, a copy start button is depressed to obtain an original copy image through known operation. At this time, an electrostatic charging device applies AC 800V and DC 700V to an electrode 37 superposedly according to the rotation of a photosensitive drum 4a. Further, an electrostatic charger 34 is supported by an elastic support 34 in a free elastic swinging state, so the tips of the fur body 40 of the contactor 38 contact the surface of a photosensitive body layer 4 uniformly under constant pressure. Thus, space charges are prevented from in the photosensitive body layer 4 to charge it uniformly. Thus, the irregularity in electrostatic charging is eliminated and no high accuracy is required between the body 4a to be charged and the electrostatic charger 34. |
