PURPOSE:To effectively break the outer jackets of dry batteries by heating dry batteries in a heating container, and opening the heating container at a stroke in a vacuum space when the temperature and pressure reached in specified values. CONSTITUTION:A rotary heating furnace 1 has a throwing-in hole 2 for used dry batteries, a heating means 3 which is jacketed around the furnace 1, and rotatable shafts 4, 4'. Used dry batteries containing mercury is put into the heating furnace 1, and a jet valve 21 is closed, then the heating furnace 1 is heated from the outside so that the inside pressure does not exceed a specified value. When the temperature and the pressure inside the furnace 1 reached specified values, the jet valve 21 is opened to reduce the pressure inside the furnace and to break the outer jackets of dry batteries, then the furnace is continuously heated under the reduced pressure, and the generated gas containing dust is transferred into a cooling tower 5. After mercury was recovered and dust was removed, the gas is exhausted in the atmosphere. |
