PURPOSE:To reduce the number of parts to be assembled in a housing by providing a coupling member holding a rotation blocking member in the housing at a return block position and an operating member releasing the engagement between this coupling member and the rotation blocking member. CONSTITUTION:A rotation blocking member 8 is provided in a housing 7, and its lug 8b is protruded outside the housing 7. When a coupling member 11 is engaged with this lug 8b, the rotation blocking member 8 can not be moved to a return allowance position. However, if the knob 12b of an operating member 12 is depressed to release the engagement between the rotation blocking member 8 and the coupling member 11, the rotation blocking member 8 can be moved to the return allowance position. In this steering lock device, the coupling member 11 and the operating member 12 are arranged outside the housing 7, thus the number of parts to be assembled in the housing 7 is decreased, and the device can be made small-sized.
