PURPOSE:To avoid erroneously correcting an entire line, by providing a continuously correcting means with a correction-stopping means for stopping a correcting operation, a timer means and a correction-restarting means, and automatically stopping the correcting operation for a predetermined period of time each time correction of one word is completed. CONSTITUTION:A correction-stopping means (d) function at least to stop a correcting operation of a continuously correcting means (c) when data read from a memory (a) after correcting one character is a space data. A timer means (f) counts a predetermined lapse of time after the correcting operation is stopped. A correction-restarting means (e) causes the continuously correcting means (c) to restart the correcting operation according to completion of a time-counting operation of the timer means (f). Since the correcting operation is stopped for a predetermined period of time each time correction of one word is finished, correction speed for one word is enhanced to shorten the period of time required for correction, while facilitating a key operation for stopping the correcting operation after the correction of a target word is finished. Since the correcting operation is stopped for a predetermined period of time each time the correction is stopped for a predetermined period of time each time the correction of each word is completed, a cancel key, a correction-stopping key or the like may be operated when an error in operation is found.
