PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a thin strip by providing a spout which inclined at a prescribed angle downward toward the outside peripheral surface of a cooling drum and setting the peripheral speed of the cooling drum so as to prevent the back flow of the molten metal on the cooling drum. CONSTITUTION:The spout 7 inclined at the prescribed angle theta2 in a 10-60 deg. toward the cooling drum 1 having a horizontally positioned axial line is disposed near the drum 1 and a space 8 to the extent of preventing the formation of the solidified shell connecting between the spout and the drum is provided between the bottom end of the spout 7 and the drum 1. Furthermore, the peripheral speed of the drum 1 is so set that the molten metal 4 does not flow backward on the surface of the drum 1 when the molten metal 4 falling onto the spout 7 past a nozzle 9 is supplied onto the surface of the drum 1 at the uniform film thickness without disturbance. The molten metal 4 is cooled on the drum 1 at a uniform film thickness by the above-mentioned method and the thin strip 5 having no cracks on the surface is obtd. The quality of the thin strip is, therefore, improved. |
