PURPOSE:To execute recording with high density, and also, to obtain a high reproducing output, by executing the recording of a magnetizing direction corresponding to the polarity of a recording signal, in the width direction of a recording track. CONSTITUTION:To an E type core 11 having gaps g1, g2, of a recording/ reproducing head 10, a core 12 is wound in the reverse direction so that a direction of a magnetic flux passing through the gaps g1, g2 becomes reverse. Accordingly, when the direction of a recording signal is the direction as indicated with an arrow (a), the magnetizing direction becomes the direction of both end parts from the center of a magnetic medium 15, and when said direction is the direction as indicated with an arrow (b), the center direction from both ends becomes the magnetizing direction, and the magnetization corresponding to the recording signal is executed in the direction vertical to the running direction of the medium 15. Accordingly, comparing with the case when the running direction of the recording medium becomes the magnetizing direction, a higher recording density can be obtained, and also, a reproducing output is raised by a sufficient magnetization in the width direction of the recording medium. |
