PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance, by reacting isobutene and/or tertiary butanol with a formaldehyde source and water in a mixture of an aqueous solution of boric acid and glycol ether while separating the product from the system as a water-containing gaseous mixture. CONSTITUTION:Isobutene and/or tert-butanol, a formaldehyde source and water are supplied to a lquid mixture of a 30-60wt% aqueous solution of boric acid and a glycol ether of formula (R<1> is H or CH3; R<2> and R<3> are H or 1-4C alkyl; at least one of R<1>-R<3> is alkyl; n is integer of 2-15) (the amount of the ehter is 5-15wt%), and are made to react with each other at 150-220 deg.C while separating the produced isoprene, low boiling by-products and unreacted raw materials from the reaction system as a water-containing gaseous mixture. EFFECT:Excellent operation stability and long catalytic life. Low initial cost because of the relatively mild reaction condition. |
