PURPOSE:To save the memory capacity of an expansion circuit by applying reproduction so that a changeover point of a compressed chrominance signal comes nearly to a head point of a time section of a luminance signal thereby decreasing the delay of the compressed chrominance signal from an output luminance signal. CONSTITUTION:An FM modulation luminane signal Y from a reproducing head 7 is demodulated by an FM demodulator 12, subjected to time adjustment by a delay circuit 9 and outputted. A compressed chrominance signal CTC from a reproducing head 10 is written in expansion memories 48, 49 via an A/D converter 60 whose sampling frequency is fs, read by a frequency fs/2 and color difference signal data DO12, 22 subjected to time axis expansion to the output of DFFs 52, 53 is extracted. In setting properly a write address and a read address in the timing of clear pulses CL1, CL2 of a write address counter 32 and a read address counter 35, color difference signals R-Y, B-Y having the same time axis as that of the luminance signal Y are obtained.
