Cartridge fuse having improved current-limiting properties. The fuse strip 7 includes at its opposite ends portions 24, 25 which are pinched between bracer insulating surfaces 11, 12 over a length e appropriate to force at least one of the arc extremities appearing during the melting of the intermediate region 10 to be contained within a narrow gap. These cartridge fuses are used in installations in which limitation of short-circuit currents must be carried out very effectively. <IMAGE>
