PURPOSE:To minimize a separated distance between a magnetic head and a recording medium, and to improve the recording and reproducing efficiency by providing a fine adjustment mechanism for moving the magnetic head in the direction vertical to a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An A carriage CRG 3 loaded with a magnetic head 2, a BCRG 5 loaded with a pad 4, and a CCRG 7 which is attached through a guide rod 6 to a floppy disk device are provided on a magnetic head carriage 1. Also, this head carriage is provided with a fine adjustment mechanism 10 for moving finely the ACRG 3 which has been attached to the CCRG 7 through a dovetail groove 8, in the direction vertical to a medium 9, and a load spring 13 for giving a moderate contact pressure between the magnetic head 2 and the pad 4, and the medium 9. An optimum position of the head 2 is a position where a reproducing output becomes maximum by allowing the medium 9 to contact the head 2 and rotating it, executing the recording and reproduction and moving a position of the ACRG 3 in the direction vertical to the medium 9 by rotating a fine adjustment screw of a head part of the mechanism 10.
