PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful in a wide application range such as adhesive, textile processing agent, paper processing agent, paint, plasticizer, etc., in high purity suppressing the formation of by-product, by reacting methyl acrylate or methacrylate with a higher alcohol in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by reacting methyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate with a higher alcohol of formula R-OH (R is 2-20C alkyl or cycloalkyl) at 50-120 deg.C under 100-760mmHg pressure using an alkali metal phosphate as a catalyst. The amount of the methyl acrylate or methacrylate is 1.2-10mol per 1mol of the higher alcohol. The catalyst is selected from trisodium phosphate, tripotassium phosphate, trirubidium phosphate and/or their hydrated salts, and its amount is 0.01-2wt% based on the sum of the ester and alcohol used as the starting raw materials. |
