PURPOSE:To cause a color to be developed speedily and with high sensitivity and enhance preservability of developed color images, by incorporating a lactone compound and a specified methine compound as coloring matter precursors and a phenolic compound and a specified benzoquinone derivative as color developers in a thermal recording material. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal recording material, (a) a colorless or light-colored acid color forming lactone compound and (b) a methine compound of formula (I) are incorporated as coloring matter precursors, and (c) a phenolic compound and (d) a benzoquinone derivative of formula (II) are incorporated as color developers. The methine compound may be leuco crystal violet, leuco malachite green or the like. The benzoquinone derivative may be 2-p-toluenesulfonyl-1,4- quinone, 2,5-dibenzoyl-1,4-quinone or the like. Thus, an acid-base color forming system and a irreversible color forming system are used in combination, whereby a thermal recording material having the characteristic features of both of the color forming systems can be obtained. In the formulas, each of X, Y and Z is a benzene ring, naphthalene ring or an aromatic heterocyclic ring, and each of X1-X4 is H, a halogen, carboalkoxyl, acyl or the like. |
