A contact element is provided between the electrode of an iontophoretic apparatus and the skin of a patient to be treated, such contact element being adapted to provide a zone of electrical contact of defined area and total contiguity between the surface of the contact element and the defined zone of skin, said contact element being of a sufficiently rigid construction to cause the skin surface by its inherent resilience to conform to the shape of the contact element upon applied pressure, being of a size to ensure that the pressure will produce conformity without discomfort to the patient, and including means surrounding the electrically conductive portion of the contact element causing the zone of electrical contact with the skin to be restricted and defined in area. |
