FIXED BED TYPE CONTINUOUS ACTIVATED SLUDGE TREATMENT OF WASTE WATER BY USING CERAMICS AS CARRIER FOR IMMOBILIZING ACTIVATED SLUDGE

PURPOSE:To stably execute an activated sludge treatment at a low cost with a smaller sized device by passing waste water in which oxygen is dissolved through a ceramic carrier stuck with microorganisms for decomposing the contaminant of the waste water thereby treating the water. CONSTITUTION:The waste water in which the oxygen is dissolved is passed through the ceramic carrier 1 stuck with the microorganisms to decompose the contaminant of the contaminant of the waste water and is thereby treated in a biochemical cleaning treatment of the waste water. For example, porous ceramics is used for the carrier 1. The amt. of the dissolved oxygen in the waste water passed through the ceramic carrier is so controlled that the oxidation-reduction potential after passage through the ceramic carrier is kept within a prescribed range. As a result, the smaller driving power than in the conventional method is required for air for aeration. A sludge settling chamber used for a general activated sludge treatment can be omitted or simplified. The reduction in the size of the microorganisms reaction vessel is possible. The activated sludge treatment is stably and satisfactorily executed.
