PURPOSE:To make it possible to shorten the time required in tool exchanging so as to improve productivity by making an exchange unit provided with an arm having the holding portion of a tool at the end thereof turnable during the retreat of a column to a tool exchange position. CONSTITUTION:When a tool is exchanged to a new tool after the machining is finished, the new tool 3 is fed with the holding portion 14a of an arm 14 from a magazine and an exchange unit 6 is turned to the exchange position during a spindle 2 is retreated to the tool exchange position together with a column 1. Thereby, the time for the tool exchange is shorten because the column 1 and the unit 6 are interfered with each other even if the unit 6 is turned during the retreat of the column 1. As a rotating shaft 7 is rotated, the arm 14 is rotated and the tool 3 of the spindle 2 is held with the holding portion 14b so as to be removed from the spindle 2 with the advance of the arm 14. The tool 3 of the holding portion 14a is positioned to the center of the spindle 2 with the rotation of the arm 14 at 180 deg.. Thereafter, the arm is retreated so as to mount the tool 3 to the spindle 2 and then the arm 14 is rotated with a rotating mechanism and the unit 6 is turned so that the exchanging operation of the tool 3 is finished. |
