The method may be used for e.g. a deceleration limit switch, installed on a machine tool in a numerical control system for executing predetermined control processing on the basis of signals produced by the switch. A change in the signal produced independence on or by the switch is sensed and the current position of a movable member of the machine tool, based on the change in state, is read. The current position is displayed and the position at which the switch member is installed is adjusted by determining on the basis of the displayed current position, whether the switch member is installed at the correct position.
