PURPOSE:To prevent degradation in accuracy of beta ray detection sensitivity by the bend or distortion of a migration path by providing an optical detector, etc., separately from a betaray detector onto the migration path for nucleic acid fragments. CONSTITUTION:The nucleic acid fragments are placed on a negative electrode side of a gel 2 and both ends of the gel 2 are touched to the electrolyte in an electrolyte cell 1. Then the components having the same mol. wt. respectively migrate from the negative electrode toward a positive electrode while forming migration bands 14. These components migrate at the mobility approximately inversely proportional to the logarithm of the mol. wt. A dye migrates with the same migration path of the nucleic acid fragments when the dye migrates simultaneously with the nucleic acid fragments. The position of the dye is measured just above the beta ray detector 8. Light emitted from a light source 9 is projected as the light having a width perpendicularly to the migration by a cylindrical lens 10 to the gel 2. This light is attenuated by the dye in the migrating gel. The quantity of the attenuation is measured by a photodetector 11, by which the position of the migration band 14 of the dye is determined. The position of the detector 8 is moved to the migration position of the dye by a beta ray detector moving mechanism 12 under the instruction from a control circuit 13 in accordance with the detected position, by which the beta rays from the nucleic acid fragments are detected with the high sensitivity. |
