PURPOSE:To stably harden a shaft with laser light at a low cost by restricting the beam mode of laser light to a single mode in a Gaussian distribution, regulating the focal point to a specified range and specifying the angle of radiation. CONSTITUTION:When the fillet part of a shaft 1 is hardened by surface heating with laser light and natural air cooling, CO2 laser light having a single mode in a Gaussian distribution is use as laser light 10 radiated after defocusing to an overfocus having 1.05-1.5 ab value. The laser light 10 is radiated on a position 10b shifted from a position 10a on a centripetal line of the shaft 1 by 20-70 deg. angle alpha. Thus, hardening with laser light can be stably carried out at a low cost. |
