<p>An electrical receptacle having a spring contact (12) contained in a housing (10). The spring may be formed with a nonflexing portion (18) which provides a stiff section that acts as a positive stop to prevent overstressing the spring and permanently deforming it when a contact pin (22) is inserted. Alternatively, the travel of the spring may be limited by providing a hump or tapered groove in the passage (11) beneath the spring. The housing (10) further includes inclined plane sections (17,19) which contact the spring and serve to preload the spring so as to reduce the insertion force of a pin (22) inserted into the receptacle and also to act as a guide for centering the pin.</p> |
