OVERCURRENT FAULT DETECTION SYSTEM

An overcurrent protection arrangement for a control system (10) for a multiphase AC motor (12) comprises a separate overcurrent shutdown mechanism (34, 36, 38) for each phase of the AC power used in the motor (12). The separate phase shutdown mechanisms (34, 36, 38) provide protection for minor overcurrent conditions without shutting down the entire motor control system. The overcurrent protection arrangement also comprises a mechanical feedback apparatus (18) for totally shutting down the motor control system (10) only in a severe overcurrent condition.
