PURPOSE:To extend the life of a belt, by sheathing tension bodies having been embedded in a toothed belt on which grooves are formed between belt teeth. CONSTITUTION:The structure of a toothed belt is such that the tension bodies 2 consisting of stranded wires are sheathed to prevent them from being exposed at grooves 4, and that they are embedded in an extension member 6 of the toothed belt 1. Thereby, the exposure of the tension bodies 2 at the grooves 4 can be prevented, and since each tension body 2 is gathered in a bundle by a sheath 3, the damage of strands due to the drawing from a metal mold and the damage due to the separation and fraying of strands caused by the bending of the belt at the grooves while the belt is running can be prevented. Thus, the reduction in the strength of the belt 1 can be prevented, and further the life of the belt 1 can be extended.
