A method for collaboration using a visualization application, wherein the method is executing on a computer system, wherein the computer system comprises a processor coupled to a display screen, a computer readable memory and at least one input device, the method comprising: rendering on the display screen, by the computer system, images of a plurality of parts comprising a product; overlaying, on the display screen and by the computer system, a non-text visual indicator, representing a particular type of business intelligence data for a selected part, over the image of the selected part in the plurality of parts to form a view, where business intelligence data allow a user to evaluate an impact of using the selected part on the product; displaying, by the computer system, a guide on the display screen that indicates the particular type of business intelligence data represented by the non-text visual indicator overlaying the selected part of the product; receiving, by the computer system, a first request to display collaboration data related to the particular type of business intelligence indicated by the non-text visual indicator, where the first request is generated by selection on the display screen of the image in the view of the selected part by an input device; receiving, by the computer system and in response to the first request, collaboration information related to the particular type of business intelligence data about the selected part; storing, by the computer system, the collaboration information in the computer readable memory and forming an association between collaboration data and the particular type of business intelligence data about the selected part of the product, wherein the collaboration data comprises data input by one or more users to be associated with the particular type of business intelligence data about the selected part; and displaying, on the display screen and by the computer system, the collaboration data associated with the particular type of business intelligence data about the selected part, where the product is a concept or prototype, where business intelligence data includes techniques used in identifying, extracting, and analyzing data, including information on products, where business intelligence data transforms raw data into meaningful and useful information to be conveyed using visual representations including pie charts, where a portion of an image is one or more Computer Aided Design (CAD) files for one or more parts of the product and where object data is associated with an assembly file that contains assembly instructions for one or more parts and a visualization file that contains visualization data for a single part, where the object data pertaining to a part is associated with a visualization data file that contains visualization data for a corresponding part of the object, where visualization data files are CAD files that have a hierarchical structure, where the CAD files indicate to a CAD system or any other visualization software how to assemble a visualization for an object, where the visualization data files consist of separate data files for each part of a product and the data files are assembled to produce a visualization of the product, where collaboration data is displayed with at least a portion of the visualization for a product, where the collaboration data is associated with at least a portion of the visualization data for a product, where the collaboration data for a particular product is associated with visualization data for the particular part and associations form a mapping referenced to generate visualizations with collaboration data, or a hierarchy of files, where business intelligence data for a portion of the object is correlated with at least a portion of visualization data from the one or more visualization data files, where object data and business intelligence is correlated with the visualization data for the object, where object data is business intelligence data, product business intelligence data or information, and any other object data for at least a portion of the object, where the product business intelligence data for a particular part of a concept for an object is correlated with corresponding visualization data for the part, where the correlation consists of associating the visualization data and object data for the part in a database table so that a table in a database stores correlations between visualization data and object data, where the table has columns for visualization data and object data, and each row of the table reflects the association between the visualization data and object data for the part, where a mapping is determined between one or more CAD files for the product to the business intelligence data, where a table is queried to determine whether a part of the object has associated business intelligence data, where visual indicator include at least one of making the part a particular color, shading the part, overlaying the part with cross hatching, text, or an image, and any other visual indicator for at least a portion of the visualization for the object, where the visual indicator includes at least one of a particular color for generation of a heat map overlayed onto the visualization of a product to indicate the parts of the design that are not on target, shading or cross-hatching, where a message box/text box is displayed in which a user types in collaboration data, including comments, and posts them to a discussion pertaining to that design, where specific users are notified of this user's comment, where alerts are sent to users that are designated to receive collaboration data for the particular part, where a user interface renders a visualization of an object concept with overlays of shading/cross-hatching representing the object data, where clicking a right arrow icon on a part serves as a request to display collaboration data for the part, where a visual card is displayed with more information about the part including the collaboration data for the part, where collaboration data shared by one or more users is displayed in a user interface for displaying information about a product concept(s), where an Activity Stream is displayed within the user interface with comments from users on one or more products, where the comments are viewed by others that are working on the same concept, where users respond to comments and share collaboration data by inputting collaboration data and submitting the data for addition to the Activity Stream, where users, when posting a comment, are notified if other users have previously posted a comment and the users are identified as users to receive notification on collaboration data for a particular part/group of parts, where the user interface provides a link to start a collaboration session and the object data associated with the part has a list of people that would have an interest in a collaboration session on the design of the part, where the user is provided the option to look at a group of persons associated with product/part and choose who to invite from those persons, where in a collaboration session, new parts are added for discussion and a discussion on various design options ensues in the collaboration session, where a collaboration session includes a phone conference, VOIP call, an email, or any other form of communication, where one or more options for a particular part are displayed with the visualization to facilitate switching out parts, where a recommendation engine is used to present options for a particular part, where searching for a replacement part leverages visualization with the overlay of visual indicators to identify the parts to replace, where users collaborate by sharing collaboration data on a proposed part replacement, where a mapping is created between one or more of the Visualization Data File(s) and the Object Data, where the mapping consists of associations between portions of Object Data files and portions of Visualization Data Files, where a programming construct of a reference is used to refer to data in an object data file is associated with a reference to data in Visualization Data File, where View Generation Software is used to create the mappings and generate Overlayed File(s), which are visualization files with overlayed visual indicators for a particular view of the object data, where the View Generation Software makes copies of the Visualization Data File(s) with additional data for overlaying the visual indicators for business intelligence data, where mappings are made between Object Data and the Overlayed File(s), where the Overlayed File(s) are files that are visualization data files that render the visualization for the object with visual indicators overlayed onto the visualization for the Object Data, where Business Intelligence Management Software is used to manage the Object Data, where the Business Intelligence Management Software has a User Interface that utilizes a Visualization plugin to render the visualization with overlays using the Overlayed File(s) and where the Business Intelligence Management Software is a visualization application with ability to render visualizations.
