PURPOSE:To increase the error detection processing speed by performing all data error detection processings by hardware of a special circuit. CONSTITUTION:When write instruction data is inputted from a reader writer 2 to an IC card 1, a control element 11 temporarily holds write data in a RAM and error detection information of write data is generated by a special circuit 14 and is added to write data in the RAM. Data in the RAM is written in a designated area of a memory 12. When read instruction data is inputted, the element 11 reads out data and error detection information in the memory 12 and temporarily holds them in the RAM and checks the validity of data, and data is sent to the reader writer 2 as answer data when it is valid.
