The hydraulic system for a diaphragm machine contains a casing (1) that is connected to a compensating pump (3), and diaphragm units (4, 5), each of which encloses a hydraulic cylinder (6, 7) that is linked to a liquid pressure limiter (10, 11). The diaphragm units (4, 5) are connected in series in such a way that the pressure limiter (10) of the upstream diaphragm unit (4) is connected to the hydraulic cylinder (7) of the downstream diaphragm unit (5). The compensating pump (3) is connected to the hydraulic cylinder (6) of the first diaphragm unit (4) in the flow direction of the liquid.
