PURPOSE:To commonly use an installation space so as to aim at miniaturizing a steering drive device and at facilitating the assembly of the same by arranging actuators for a clutch mechanism and a brake mechanism in parallel with each other outside and inside of a mission casing by means of a cover member forming one side wall of the mission casing. CONSTITUTION:A center gear 2 incorporated in a mission casing 1 is meshed with a bevel gear 3 provided thereto with a transmission shaft 4 which is in turn provided thereto with a spur gear 5. The transmission shaft 4 is engaged to and disengaged from the super gear 5 by means of a clutch mechanism 8, and the spur gear 5 is braked by a brake mechanism 9. In this arrangement, a spring 14 pressing drive multiple discs 10 against driven multiple discs 12 in the clutch mechanism 8 is controlled by an actuator 15. Further, an actuator 19 presses operating multiple discs 16 against braking multiple discs 18. Further, the actuators 15, 19 are arranged inside and outside of a cover member 1a for the mission casing 1.
