Coating of moulds or of cores for the casting of metals with ferrosilicon agents for the treatment of liquid cast iron. The ferrosilicon in the form of particles which are brought into contact with a mould or a core made of an earthed refractory material is charged with electricity by rubbing, for example with what is known as a tribogun, in order to cover the mould or the core therewith. This method can be applied to the coating of moulds and cores with ferrosilicons for the inoculation of grey cast iron or of cast iron containing spheroidal graphite or for imparting the spheroidal form to graphite in liquid cast iron.
