<p>A friction material containing from about 0.5 - 29 wt% of carbonaceous fibers with a bond nitrogen content of from about 14 to 21 wt%, an auxiliary material and a thermosetting resin. The material has good wear and temperature resistance characteristics and can be used in power transmissions and brakes.</p>
