PURPOSE:To retard hydration of cadmium oxide and to improve manufacturing environment by a simple process by kneading active material powder mainly comprising cadmium oxide, a binder, and water to form paste, and adding an antimony compound to the paste before applying the paste to both sides of a porous metal core. CONSTITUTION:Polyvikyl alcohol aqueous solution is added to a mixture of cadmium oxide having a mean particle size of about 1mu and antimony trioxide crystal powder, and they are kneaded to form paste. The paste is applied to a nickel plated perforated steel plate serving as a conductive core, and dried for a specified time to form an electrode. The cadmium negative electrode is prepared by adding the antimony compound in the paste. The negative electrode is combined with a sintered nickel positive electrode to form a sealed storage battery. By adding antimony, hydration of cadmium oxide is retarded, and manufacturing environment is improved without decrease in performance. |
