PURPOSE:To obtain a safe and flame-retardant dry flower having flame retardance, capable of maintaining properties as dry flower for a long period, by spraying the surface of a plant with a solution of a flame-retardant to form a coating film and then drying the film. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a plant such as rose, safflower, chrysanthemum, wideleaf sea lavender, baby's breath or poppy, before or after drying, is sprayed with a solution of a flame-retardant to form a coating film, which is dried to give the aimed dry flower. The flame-retardant is obtained by dissolving an organic phosphorus nitrogen condensate or guanidine sulfamate in a solvent such as water or methanol into a solution and is preferably alkali at pH>=7. The flame-retardant is partially permeated from the surface of the plant into the interior to sufficiently provide flame retardance. The whole dry flower becomes hard by the coating film, is slightly damaged and further slightly absorbs moisture. The plant has reduction in fading rate and the dry flower has a long appreciation period.
