A solenoid valve for controlling the idling speed of an internal combustion engine has a valve element (16) pressed against a valve seat (14) by a return spring (18). The armature (26) of a solenoid actuator is seated on the lifting rod (20) of the valve element (16). If current is fed to the coil (24) of the solenoid actuator, the armature (26) is magnetically held on the disc (30) against the force of an auxiliary spring (32).
