A fingerprint detecting terminal is disclosed, including a fingerprint sensor with a contact surface (18) for a finger under investigation. The contact surface (18) is arranged within an ergonomically optimised finger location plate (13) comprising a distal joint location ridge (21) for controlling axial location of the finger relative to the contact surface (18), and at least one finger trough (26) for controlling transverse motion and angular twist of the finger.
